The requirements for 'Green IT' are changing.

Where cost
savings through reduced power usage were once enough to claim good green
credentials, this is no longer the case.
Organizations
face growing pressure to deliver more sustainable benefits that are readily
visible to stakeholders outside IT and outside the business. Managing the
capacity of your enterprise effectively to deliver sustainable and measurable
'Green' benefits is key to keeping all parties happy.
Most organizations regardless of scale are keen to
embrace and deliver "Green" solutions.
These projects are usually driven by the need to
reduce carbon omissions, achieve certain ISO standards or simply to save money
by reducing operational expenditure. Whilst the technologies that underpin
these initiatives are understood e.g. consolidation, virtualization, etc it's capacity management that will allow you
to meet the project objectives and still provide the customer with the services
that they need.
How can capacity management be used to optimize
environments to ensure any green projects will deliver cost effective solutions?
At a higher level, how will mature ITIL processes be
essential in maintaining any green initiatives and moving them forward?
I’ll be considering these and other questions at my
webinar on February 9 - looking at the changing face of Green IT, from cost
savings through sustainability to maturity, how you can use capacity management
to reduce your current carbon footprint and enable sustainable Green IT through
effective capacity management processes.
