vSphere vs Hyper-V showdown. Results - Individual VM CPU

Individual VM CPU

There may be variability in the numbers that is not captured in these tests, as this was a small sample. Red bars represent the Hyper-V environment and blue bars represent VMware in all the following graphs, and time is in seconds – so the lower the better.

The first individual test I ran is a single CPU running a single process and there is a little bit of an anomaly shown here, as surprisingly Win7 on Hyper-V appears slower.

I ran the single process with an extra vCPU and didn't see any negative impacts, no degraded performance but it didn't help either.

I then ran twice the amount of work in the same time using two processes.

Summary of CPU results

To summarize

·        Windows CPU performance on Hyper-V was significantly slower
·        Two vCPUs running a single process had little negative impact.

On Wednesday I'll show the results for an Individual VM Disk.
